The Many Uses for Vicks Vaporub

1

Cold and flu is season is upon us, which means a little blue jar of Vicks VapoRub ointment probably lurks somewhere in your bathroom cabinet. Vicks offers soothing relief for those times your family suffers from colds and congestion, but knowing the many uses of this versatile product will have you reaching for that little jar year round.

Looking for something to soothe those achy muscles? Rubbing Vicks on the spot should do the trick. Got a toenail fungus? Dry nails? Cracked heels? Vicks can help. It’s also been known to help with chapped lips (don’t eat it), headaches (a little bit applied to temples or forehead; avoid the eyes), hemorrhoids (use at your own risk!), and tick removal. Vicks is even used by Hollywood makeup artists to make actresses cry! The list goes on and on.

With all the news about the risks of cough medicine to children, many assert that Vicks is a great alternative to preventing coughing at night. Just slather the VapoRub on the feet, wear socks, and get ready for some sound sleep (Snopes).  Vicks can also be an alternative product for diabetics who don’t want the sugar found in some oral cough medicines (Vicks.com).

Okay, so Vicks has been known to stop kittens from scratching your legs. It has healing benefits to horses. And is known as the poor man’s viagra. But what about you? Have you discovered any cool uses for Vicks? Share them now!

Remember, Vicks is for external use only. As with trying any product as a remedy for a condition, you can have a reaction to one or more of its ingredients, (camphor, eucalyptus oil, menthol, cedarleaf oil, nutmeg oil, thymol and turpentine oil), so always use common sense.

I have bronchitis and also asthma. I was using my Ventolin inhaler to excess because of the bronchitis. Not only was this not working, but was dangerous. Finally, I just couldn’t breathe. Then I found Vicks, smeared it all over my chest and under my nose, and I have been inhaler free for 2 days!
