Chilly Days
The start of this year has been COLD, to say the least. As I’m typing, my fingers are cold and I’m bundled up. You might think, so, what’s the big deal? It’s cold everywhere. The deal is that I live in FLORIDA and it’s not supposed to be this cold. In the last ten days, we’ve had morning temperatures in the 30’s or below. Daytime temps barely top the high 40’s. And again, you say, so? This is Florida, people. We’re supposed to be in the 70’s right about now!
I’ve seen reports from all over the country and I know we aren’t the only ones experiencing arctic temperatures. And as much as I sound like a whiner, I really can’t complain. I’ve seen pictures of the havoc snow storms have caused in many places. Someone even sent me pictures of snow in Canada that piled up around and almost over a house. Yikes!
I’m from up north originally and I do remember snow and cold. As kids, we had a blast sled riding and ice skating. Growing up, I couldn’t have imagined living anywhere else. But I’ve lived in Florida now for many years. And yes, I am spoiled by our warmer temperatures. Usually this time of year we’re still wearing flip flops. So we’re really not prepared for these cold days. By now, having lived down south for such a long time, most of us have gotten rid of our heavy winter garments. Let me say that in the past few days, we’ve remembered how to layer! Thankfully I still had some gloves and scarves hidden away in the closet.
For some of you out there, you love his time of year, enjoying winter sports and all that goes with it. You’ll still have a couple more months of it, while we’re looking at warmer temperatures by the end of the week. And trust me, we’ll be happy and smiling again, just like those knee deep in snow are excited about skiing conditions. But we’ve sure had something to talk about the past week. Bonding over weather, who would have thought?
Soon, winter will turn to spring, then summer and we’ll have our 90 degree days. And I promise, I won’t complain at all!
